Title: Draft
Prompt: senate
Author: independence1776
Rating: General
Characters: Depa Billaba
Star Wars Media Property: Prequels, Kanan comics, and technically Brotherhood
Word count: 200
Summary: Depa's thoughts while waiting for the Senate to vote on drafting the Jedi into the war.
Depa looked out at the pods filled with people who would not be fighting the war. She was one of many Jedi in the Senate building, waiting for their fate to be decided. Knight Kenobi had found the clones created for the Republic and then Chancellor Palpatine had received emergency powers and accepted the army without a vote. The entire reason Senator Amidala had had to flee Coruscant— her opposition to the Military Creation Act pointless now. But armies needed leaders. The Senate saw peacekeepers and thought they should become generals.
The vote to draft the Jedi into the army, to make Masters and Knights generals and Padawans commanders… She knew the Order would not win this day. People were too scared. They looked to the Jedi to save them, no matter that the reason the Military Creation Act had even been raised was because the Jedi were too few in number to maintain peace and order in the galaxy.
She didn’t know how to lead armies. She was good with small-group tactics against targets like pirates. But leading a battalion of soldiers was a different matter. War was unforgiving. She wasn’t sure she’d be able to learn fast enough.
