So, why did Han feel so conflicted about leaving?
Leia said they could use a guy like him; he hoped she meant for herself more than the fight.
Either way, he knew he might as well stay; he had a fast ship and was better than most with a blaster.
And when the galaxy finally found peace, he may find just a little of his own; if it was with a certain princess, so much the better.
