A crowded spaceport was a double-edged sword for those who wished to go unnoticed. More eyes to see you, but more faces to be seen. A gambler would tell you it all depended on which way the dice fell, whether you’d be overlooked, or dragged off to the authorities.

But she was not a gambler, and Jedi didn’t rely on luck.

She slipped into the crowd with practiced ease. Once, she would have opened herself up to it, felt the flow of people around her as she moved with them, but she couldn’t afford to do that now. She kept herself closed off, leaving behind as small of an impression as she could manage, both physically and in the Force. She stepped lightly, carefully, her boots only leaving the barest mark in the dirt and quickly stamped out by the weight of dozens more. It was the closest she could be to invisible.

It worked, but it ached. This lonely feeling, self-imposed out of necessity, wasn’t something she was used to. She’d been on her own, before, but always able to embrace the life around her, and know that her family was out there, too.

Now, she didn’t have either.
