“Turning one of the Temple’s meditation rooms into a gambling den? What will the Council think?” Obi-Wan said, mischief dancing in his eyes.
“As I recall, this was your idea, padawan,” Qui-Gon said. “And as for the Council, I dare say about half of them make a formidable opponent in this game, even for me. Certainly Master Yoda hasn’t lost a game of sabacc in the last century.”
Obi-Wan just grinned and joined his master on the cushions. “Well,” he said, gesturing at the bacta patch still on his face, “field experience turned out not to be the ideal place to start. I clearly have more to learn, so an evening practicing in the Temple seemed prudent.”
“Indeed. For lesson one, I must clarify that the goal is usually to avoid being caught, not to start a bar fight.”
“Implying that sometimes the goal is to start a bar fight?”
Qui-Gon sighed. “There are better ways to start a bar fight than cheating at sabacc, Obi-Wan.”
“I will take that under advisement,” Obi-Wan said cheerfully.
“The key,” Qui-Gon said, “is subtlety. The Force and more mundane tricks can both be of use here. Now, watch me carefully, and let’s begin.”
